Tourist bathing in a geyser, don’t do that!
It’s such an uncommon sight to see Bæjarins Bestu Pylsur so deserted, even on a cold and rainy night like this. Hang in there, dear hot dog vendor! We’re with you.
I’ve posted plenty of things about Reykjavik’s mayor, Jón Gnarr, before (he’s very postable). This post sums up his character quite well.
The blog Messy Nessy has given our Mayor some pretty high praise! Can’t say we disagree though…
Mývatn is such a nice place, full of seismic action and sulfuric mudpots, as you can see in this nice photo by xorunaways. According to local lore, the Dimmuborgir lava forest in Mývatn is the home of the Yule Lads, so it’s a really nice place to visit at Christmastime.
But don’t even think about it this year! Game of Thrones is shooting up there and the whole place is booked solid! Good news for our tourism industry and Game of Thrones fans, bad news for travelers.
Yay! It’s print day! Our Christmas 2012 issue hits the streets on Friday! We’re all furiously typing articles and laying things out and making things extra fun and festive for our final paper of the year. It’s very exciting.
For now, check out this very compelling article from our November issue exploring the life of refugees in Iceland, the legal issues they face and bureaucratic waiting game they endure: Justice Delayed, Justice Denied by Snorri Páll Jónsson Úlfhildarson.
I am all dressed up for Christmas.
As tempting as the beauty of Iceland may be, please heed to the warning signs that accompany some of them! This is harsh terrain and you can get seriously hurt, especially now in winter that the roads and weather are worse. When travelling, always have the number for the Iceland Search & Rescue team in your phone!

Mark your calendar: Þórir Georg is back from Germany and having an album release show with Jón Þór and Gang Related on Wednesday, December 19th at Faktorý. It only costs 1000 ISK and will surely be a rocking night!
You’re welcome! Thanks for taking such a nice photo. That’s weird that you can’t find it. You should check out HOF Menningarhús, Té og kaffi in Penninn Eymundsson, Café Amour, and Bláa kannan. Some of the hotels may have copies in their lobby too.
